Implementation of a behavioral rehabilitation program

The SPA shelter in Morée contains about a hundred dogs, among these 100 dogs some have behavior that prevents them from being adopted and the agents have difficulty working on their rehabilitation for multiple and varied reasons. The trainees will work in pairs and will all have a dog to rehabilitate during the internship; through a good knowledge of the clicker-training technique, an ability to understand cognition in dogs and field discipline.

The idea is to find simple, effective programs that are adapted to the shelter world to avoid euthanasia and optimize adoptions. We will take the dogs that come to the internship whether it is for problems of aggression on humans, protection of resources, fear or minor but no less problematic problems such as Tug on a leash etc.

The objectives of this internship are:

  • Provide expertise in analyzing the problem and be able to do a good analysis to optimize the rehabilitation program.

  • Provide realistic feedback on the rehabilitation capacity of the dog in question.

  • Analyze the personality of each individual, learn how to do a field assessment, set up a rehabilitation program despite the environment and measure the dog's progress for a realistic report.

Very interesting course that allows to develop a reflection and effective methods for the rehabilitation of dogs. The different profiles of dogs, each more touching than the other, allow to practice on different problems and to find quick and effective solutions to help them. Thank you to Catherine and Nicolas for sharing their great and valuable experience in canine rehabilitation.

Shelter application - education and prevention

First experience of training in a shelter, the SPA of Torreilles, which aims to put into practice in a concrete framework the various prerequisite courses (clicker, walking on a leash, etc.). We were a good small group, which allowed us to work with several dogs in order to promote their adoption. Thanks to the surgical technique and the excellent advice of our 2 trainers, each 4-legged individual showed us the best of themselves. I recommend this course to those who wish to deepen their technique in a real situation, however if it is your first time in a shelter prepare yourself to be emotionally touched. Finally, I thank our 2 trainers, Catherine & Nicolas for having made me discover this universe and share their passion with their always benevolent look, thank you also to the SPA of Torreilles for its welcome.
